Paintovers (Session 5) - Visual Arts & Animation 14/15

In this session we had to texture and paint over 3D rendered models to give the effect that they were finished objects ready for a game. This is a cool way to show off some good looking concept art rather quickly. I personally prefer the spaceship, shuttle thing? Only because I struggled getting the Vampires skin to look good. Either way I am happy with results

Steampunk Homework - Visual Arts & Animation 14/15

In this homework task we had to design something to do with the steampunk genre. This could be a character, gun or a machine. I decided to go with a gun. One of my favourite games ever is the Nazi Zombies from Call of Duty: World at War, Mostly due to the Ray Gun. Now I know that the Ray Gun is nothing to do with steampunk, but I wanted to create something similar but with that steampunk twist.
Nazi Zombies - Ray Gun
So with the ray gun for inspiration I made a mood board of similar looking guns and I also collected some reference of gears and clocks as I wanted parts of the gun to be controlled by a clock.

Steampunk - Moodboard
I did some quick silhouettes of three guns in Photoshop and decided to go with the third one.

Gun designs
Once I had my silhouette I started to model it in Maya. After I had the model I took the render into Photoshop and applied some nice colour and textures. Looking back though I do think I should have made some parts of the gun higher poly. and given it a few shadows. However I do like the gun and think I did the original ray gun a little bit of justice.

Lava Creature Homework - Visual Arts & Animation 14/15

This is my homework for the lava creature, We were set the task to design our own rock creature after our taught session on how to create unique lava effects. I started by putting together a moodboard as usual. I really like the creature design I came up with. I like how his arms are huge yet his legs are tiny. I also like that he has no face. Overall I enjoyed this task and I feel I learnt a new valuable technique to use in the future.

Lava! (Session 4) - Visual Arts & Animation 14/15

In lesson 4 we were taught how to create a lave effect using a few simple blending options. We made the colour overlay of our brush white, the outer glow to red and the inner glow to yellow. I added a few motion blur effects to the arm and the top of the body. I also used a cloud brush to make the red and orange mist behind my creature. I'm happy with the result and I will most likely use this technique in the future.
